The resort guide
What does
all-inclusive include?
A simpler vacation starts with knowing what’s covered and what still needs a place in your budget.

All-inclusive is a useful starting point, but it isn’t a complete description of a booking. The most helpful comparison is a written list of the things included in your specific rate.
Start with the resort stay
Look at accommodation, meals, drinks, and activities first. Then check which venues and services your room category can access. Don’t assume that every restaurant, experience, or upgrade shown in a resort’s photos is included.
For example, Secrets Moxché describes its stay through its Unlimited-Luxury offering. Hotel Xcaret Arte’s All-Fun Inclusive concept also includes access to Grupo Xcaret parks and transportation, with reservations and conditions applying to some experiences. Those are different ways to spend a vacation, even before comparing the rooms.
Seven questions to ask before booking
- Which dining is included? Ask about reservations, dress codes, special menus, and any venues with a separate charge.
- What drinks are covered? Check the included selection and any premium upgrades rather than relying on the word “unlimited.”
- Are airport transfers included? If so, confirm the airport, arrival requirements, booking procedure, and whether the ride is shared or private.
- What activities can we use? Separate resort activities from excursions, spa treatments, rentals, and experiences that need reservations.
- What does this room category change? Ask about lounge access, dining access, views, pool access, and any minimum-age rules.
- Are there taxes, fees, or gratuities to account for? Get a breakdown for the actual booking rather than estimating from another traveler’s trip.
- What happens if our plans change? Review the deposit, cancellation deadlines, and the conditions attached to the rate.
Build a realistic trip budget
Use separate lines for the resort, airfare, ground transportation, optional activities, and personal spending. If an item is included, mark it that way so it isn’t counted twice. If it hasn’t been confirmed, leave it as a question rather than treating it as free.
That also makes comparisons more useful. One resort might include experiences you’re excited about; another might suit you better if your plan is to stay by the pool.
Choose for the vacation you want
Before comparing prices, decide whether you want adults-only quiet, a family-friendly setting, or active days outside the resort. Tell your advisor everyone’s ages, your travel dates, and the parts of a vacation you most look forward to. A good fit is about how you’ll use the stay.
